AQUATIC MASSAGE (a Watsu Elective) is intended to prepare the professional, as well as the novice, in the world of bodywork, to enter the world of warm water bodywork with ease, grace and confidence.

Aquatic Massage is offered at three levels, each being one week long.

Level One
During the first week students will be taught individual sequences comprised of a repertoire of movements with an emphasis on flow, dance and the seamless qualities of Aquatic Massage.  The attention will be on body mechanics, breath, and technique.

Level Two
During the second week the student will be asked to choose material that is appropriate for particular clients.  To accomplish this, the class will give sessions to the general public, with the intention of gaining experience with a wide variety of body types with different physical and emotional issues.  The focus will be on presence, while using the breath as a tool.
In a recent class we had the privilege of working with a lovely woman who had a cardiac condition, who was on oxygen on a 25 foot cord, and who weighed in excess of 300 pounds.  In the same class we had a university linebacker who felt like pure iron, weighing 240 pounds, dealing with some very heavy emotional issues. Yet another model who came was a lovely young mother, 7 months pregnant expecting her second child,  she had a sonogram showing the baby to be breech and hoping the session would create a space for the fetus to turn.  The day after the session we received a call from her that the fetus had turned.

Note: All these, and ten thousand more situations are possible, it's good to encounter a few of the possibilities while in a class.  Our intention is to simply hold the space safe and sacred with no agenda, with no intention, but with total attention. To allow the student to become more confident and trusting of the innate healing process of the unique being in our arms.

Students will also be encouraged to customize their work on land to the aquatic environment.  Many of the challenges faced in a water massage professional setting will be addressed.

Certification
The final phase of the certification requires the student to complete forty documented practice sessions.  There is no class that can teach you what practice will teach you.  Demonstration of proficiency with an instructor or assistant for any minor fine tuning will then result in a Certificate of Completion.

Level Three
For the passionate therapist who wants more and more, there is a third week of much more subtle sequences and moves.  This is not required, you'll know when it's right for you.
